INFESTUS - Chroniken des Ablebens

Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to check the previous materials of this German act, but I got to know that this German-titled album of 2008 is their second full-length release. Here we have a better representative of the German scene having quite many a band though we can take if for granted by their label’s name since they care for quality.

Their music may be put into the category of the recently popular (this word sounds quite strange in this aspect…) depressive Black Metal perhaps. However, the opening track strangely reminded me of Irish PRIMORDIAL. Their well-produced songs by and large can be compared to those of STERBEND and SILENCER adding that they are far less neurotic than the Swedes.

The painful vocals often ornament fast-paced tracks so it’s not the usual BURZUM-copying what we have here. In my opinion, the clean guitar parts with more obscure melodies are great, these add quite much to the album. Looking at the entire picture I’m not saying the album is a masterpiece in all its aspect since there are some weaker, less memorable passages, however, „Chroniken des Abelebens” is an album that shows its virtues on several listens. I’m writitng this at the seventh spin so my rating can be seen as kinda fluid but I think it’s a good stuff by all means.
